Tin Can Bay is a small coastal town on the Cooloola Coast best known for it's Dolphin Feeding attraction. A great place for fisherman and anyone else keen to enjoy the waterfront.
Handy Info
Tin Can Bay is an easy day trip being 25minutes from Rainbow Beach, 40 minutes from Gympie and 2 1/4hrs from North Brisbane. There is a caravan park here and many holiday houses if you plan to stay awhile. There is an IGA here and also a short 10-minute drive to Cooloola Cove Woolies.
Things to Do
The main tourist attraction here is the Humpback Dolphin feeding at Barnacles Dolphin Centre. You'll find them at the Norman Point Boat ramp, at the Marina. Feeding is at 8am daily and cost is $10.
Norman Point is a lovely spot for a picnic lunch overlooking the water. Kids can explore the rock wall and through the mangroves, or have a play at the big playground. It is also a nice shallow spot for a swim at high tide.
You could throw a line in anywhere along the waterfront to try your luck, get out on the water on your kayak or paddleboard or you could enjoy a long walk along the boardwalk/foreshore all the way to Cooloola Cove. There is another big playground with exercise equipment along the Esplanade.
It was nice to check out the clear, calm waters of Tin Can Bay, it is clearly a boatie/fishermans village but nice to enjoy the waterfront without the fishing rods also! If you're planning to be in the area, keep an eye out for our blog on Rainbow Beach.
