Murgon Wine Trail Long Weekend

Guest Itinerary, Travelled in August 2022. If you are thinking about a trip away with the girls, check out the Murgon Wine Trail Long Weekend. You can travel either via Gympie or Kilcoy, or why not do both!

Murgon Wine Trail Long Weekend
Sunset over the Vineyard

Day 1

Brisbane to Murgon (2.75hrs without stops)

Drive up via Gympie. At Goomeri stop at the beautiful bakery for some sourdough and gourmet jams and relishes.

Just before Murgon stop at Dusty Hill Winery for lunch. Lovely meal. You can also do wine tasting and buy fudge, jams etc.

Head into Murgon IGA for some staple items for breakfast.

Arrive at your accommodation, Clovelly Estate Winery. We stayed in the Vineyard Cottage. It is the only cottage on the estate, 20m from the Cellar Door.

Wine tasting here which is $5 per person and sample approx 10 wines (just a tiny sip of each).

At sunset make up a cheese platter and sit in the grounds of the vineyard and watch the sun go down.

Day 2

Market Day in Wondai. 14kms from Murgon.

Fresh fruit and veges.

Visit the Antique shops. 2 very large premises that hold a lot of stuff.

Enjoy lunch at Murgon Hotel.

Head back to Dusty Hill Winery for the wine tasting. $6 for 6 tastings. Beautiful wines.

Bjelke Petersen Dam worth a visit.

It is a big dam that people put their boats on for recreational water skiing and tobogganing. Large campgrounds, with children's playground and swimming pool. Cabins also.

Get your fishing permit online. You may catch some Golden Perch (Yellowbelly), Aust Bass, Silver perch and Red claw.

Day 3

Barambah Cellars Winery – wine tasting $5. If you buy a bottle, they deduct the $5.

Lovely outlook.

Moffatdale Ridge Winery – wine tasting. So many nice wines. My favourite the Verdelho.

Had a beautiful lunch there, which we booked in advance.

Bought some wine/liquors.

If you want to order any wines in the future you can do so online and if you live in Qld, the delivery is free.

Day 4

Murgon to Brisbane (3hrs without stops)

Left Murgon to head home, via Nanango, Blackbutt, Yarraman and stopped at the Woodford Hotel for lunch.

If you love a wine, a road trip and looking for somewhere to enjoy a long weekend in SE Qld, this is a great place to explore. Have you been anywhere similar?
