If you’re sitting on the fence wondering if you should buy some camping gear and go exploring, let me push you over and get you out the driveway! Camping is great. It can be fun, relaxing, exciting…. Me and my family love it and go as often as we can. If you’re not sure if it’s for you, here’s my top 5 reasons to go camping.
Get out of Town
Top of my list is the fact that a camping trip gets us out of the house. It is forced downtime. Away from housework, school work, and if you’re lucky – you’ll have no phone/internet reception to be tempted with any kind of work or distractions.
Quality Time
Camping is great for having quality time with friends and family. We do a mixture of camping with just our immediate family and a group of friends. It’s so good to have time to catch up without time limitations! It’s great for kids to have other kids to play with - it makes life easier.
And our trips away with just the family are equally as good because the kids get our full attention. If you have a busy day-to-day life like us, you will love having time to just hang out together. Something that’s easily overlooked when there are so many other ‘things’ to do at home.
Social/Secluded
Where you go camping will depend on what you want from your trip. We do a mixture of Caravan Park camping and National Park camping.
Camping in a Caravan Park is great if you want a little more glamping in your camping. Amenities are a big decider for a lot of people. I’ve often been asked, “Are there toilets?!” Caravan Parks can be very social, especially if you keep going back to the same place at the same time of year – everyone enjoys a chat at happy hour and the kids will always make friends.
National Park camping is great if you want some privacy and the feeling of being a million miles away. You don’t have to totally rough it either! We take our portaloo and hot water system for showers when we are camping without facilities because we mostly camp off the grid. Many national park campgrounds have toilet blocks and some even have hot showers so it really just depends where you go.
Many of these places aren’t actually very far away from civilisation. But it can certainly feel that way when you’re sitting on the beach having dinner around the fire without another soul in sight.
Discoveries Await…
There are so many places to explore and camping is the perfect way to do it! There are so many things to see that can only be found off the beaten track. The things we’ve seen and places we’ve been are experiences and memories we will never forget.
Every area has something unique to see. It could be a waterfall, a lake, or an animal that only lives in that location. It could be red cliffs rolling onto white sand into crystal clear water – some things you can only experience by going on a camping adventure.
Variety
There are so many versions of camping. Some might say there is an evolution of camping – starting with tents and working your way through camper trailers and eventually into caravan glamping. We enjoy camping in our camper trailer and swags. Sometimes we pack our swags into our boat and camp that way! There are endless products designed specifically for camping that make life easier and more compact while away – there is an option to suit everyone.
If these 5 reasons to go camping have got you itching to give it a go, start planning your adventure. Half the fun is planning where you’re going to go, who with and what you want to do while you’re there. The adventure begins in the planning and it gives you something to look forward to! Sometimes the best memories are made during the adventure and not at the actual destination. Sometimes the destination is just your base to do all your adventuring to and from.
I hope I’ve inspired you to start your planning, where will you go first?!
